Situated in
Piazza del
Popolo (a
triangular square which
dates back till the
second half of 1700),
it is the symbol of
social life and
administration of
Offida.
The original structure,
traces back to the
XI-XII centuries, has
undergone
modifications during
the past centuries,
in fact we have
notifications that:
· the
porch that gives onto
Piazza del Popolo is
formed by
brick pillars with
surmounting travertine
capitals, which
traces back to the
XV century.
· the
porch which borders the
building giving onto
Corso Serpente Aureo,
traces back to the
end of the XVIII
century.
· a row
of swallow-tailed
merlons along the
superior wall of the
main façade
traces back to
1924.
Constructed in
brick, it is
characterized by a
tower of the 14th
century coronated by
swallow-tailed
merlons, which
later a clock
was inserted.
In the
front façade we
can see a charming
lodge formed by
13 cylindrical
travertine pillars, at
the two extremes left
and right of the lodge,
in 1932, two
coat-of-arms were
placed, one
representing the
symbol of the council
of Offida and the
other the House of
Savoia, work of
the Offidian
sculptor Aldo
Sergiacomi.
From the
central door,
(giving onto the
square) bordered a jamb
of stone which is cut
into a pyramid shape,
through a stairway, it
leads to the upper
floors of the
building.
In the inner part,
near the Council
Chamber, the probable
headquarter of the
ancient wood theatre,
there are three rooms:
the "
red room" furnished
in Luigi XV style, the
"blue room" with empire
style furniture; the
"
green room" with
Luigi XVI style
furniture.
