HISTORICAL
MENTIONS:
It
was established for a
didactical purpose in
1986 as a "Museum for
agriculture and
handicrafts" by
initiative of the
teachers of the local
high school "G.
Ciabattoni", and set up
in the underground
rooms of the ex
monastery of St.
Agostino.
The original
arrangement, simple and
effective in order to
help the visitor to
understand the context
and the function of the
each object; it is
accompanied by
dialectal denomination
which has been
maintained and
completed in the new
setting up.
MATERIALS
DISPLAY AND
DIDACTICS:
· Section
1: kitchen rebuilt
using one of the
ancient kitchens of the
building.
· Section 2
Agricultural: it is
the biggest section of
the museum, it is
divided into small
groups, with equipment
relative to particular
uses and production. It
begins with different
yokes and swing letrees
for the pulling of
agricultural carts and
equipment. Particular
importance is given to
the evolution of the
plough from the
"perticaro" to the
first mechanical
ploughs. A room is
dedicated to the
harvesting, weighing
and preservation of
cereals, and the other
is dedicated to the
cultivation of the vine
and production of wine
where the ancient
copper cauldron and
walling for the
production of "vino
cotto".
· Section 3
Handicraft: we can
note the local
handicraft shops such
as the
shoemaker, tailor,
smith and carpenter,
with the different
instruments of the
trade.
· Section 4
Housing and
continuation of the
cuisine: there are
different types of
lighting equipment and
lanterns, jugs,
instruments and objects
necessary for the
preparation of cheese
and the toasting of
barley. A small
section destinated to
the clothing and the
cleaning of cloth is
being prepared.
· Section 5
Textile Spinning:
starting from the
production and
processing of textile
fibre, hempen, cloth,
wool and silk are
illustrated and the
various
process of spinning
and winding up till the
modern knitting
machines.
· Section 6
Weaving: the hand
loom and different
accessories for the
domestic production of
textiles occupy this
last room where it
gathers samples of
various fabrics
produced in Offida in
past
centuries.
