HISTORICAL
MENTIONS:
In
July 1950 the 1st local
crafts, industrial and
commercial exhibition
was opened, it was to
be the 1st of a long
series of summer
exhibitions for the
pillow lace makers of
Offida.
Firstly set up in the
Council Chamber and
afterwards in different
areas of the ex
monastery of St.
Agostino, the
exhibition becomes a
very important showcase
of this particular
local handicraft.
Since the beginning,
the modern and old
works have been put
together, precious
evidence of the
centuries.
The display has always
maintained a
typological order, from
the processing (always
seeking to lace makers
for different stitches)
to the lace in its many
uses.
The antique and modern
objects have been
arranged in close
connection to underline
the continuation and
transformation of an
antique handicraft
which is widely spread
among the population,
hoping not to loose its
origins.
MATERIALS:
The materials displayed
are in part property of
the museum, and part
owned by the private
citizens, who lend
their best works of
their collection for a
period of time; for
this reason the
displays can vary
according to the
period, always offering
and showing new and
interesting
displays.
The haute couture dress
is property of the
museum, made in 1997
for a fashion show in
London by the stylist
Antonio Berardi and was
worn by Naomi
Campbell.
