THE
FOUNTAIN DEVOTED TO THE
LACE
MAKERS:
It's a
monument made of
bronze, constructed in
1983 by an Offidian
sculptor Aldo
Sergiacomi.
It is situated at the
entrance of the town to
show the great
importance of this
precious lace which
is practised in
Offida.
It
is in fact a very
antique art which is
carried on by
generation in
generation, permitting
the realization of this
prestigious
handicraft.
The monument shows the
evidence that, this
typically female
tradition, is still
continued, it
represents three
different
generations: from
left to right an
elderly grandma
which carefully follows
the work of the
young mother and
the young child
who is capturing the
procedure of this lace
work.
THE FOUNTAIN
DEDICATED TO THE
GODDESS OF
FLORA:
It
was
erected near the
church St.
Nicolò, as it is
described in the map
designed by Ferdinando
Fabiani (1964), in
occasion of the
installation of the
municipal waterworks
(1887), using the
water coming from the
stratum of mount
Ascensione, near
Polesio.
Made of cast
iron, it is erected
on a stone
basement.
The fountain basin
is octagonal, on
the four corners there
are statues of
eagles and
lions.
In
the middle of the
fountain there stands a
solid stem of
flower, which holds a
figure of a winged
lady, interwoven
with a garland of
flowers.
The figure of the
winged lady represents
the goddess of flora
(the symbol of the
spring season).
The fountain has been
cast in a specialized
French
foundry.
FOUNTAIN OF THE
HARVESTER:
It
was erected in
1800.
Even this piece of work
was carried out by a
French
foundry.
The
fountain, in
classical style,
represents a boy
which is holding on his
side a sickle and a
sheaf of
spikes.
On
the elliptical
base there are two
basins of which water
comes out.
The fountain represents
Offida, a rural
town.
FOUNTAIN OF ST.
FRANCESCO:
It
doesn't have
particularity in its
architectural
style.
It
is a representation in
memory of the
preaching friars
held in Offida at the
end of 1935.
The
fountain is
characterized by an
octagonal basement
in travertine stone and
it is formed by a round
obelisk, also in
travertine, which holds
a cross of wrought
iron.
FOUNTAIN OF
"TROCCO":
The fountain dates back
to the XIII century.
It's name comes from
the original shape of a
"trocco", a small, wide
washing trough. During
the centuries it made
different changes and
in 1859, a porch was
erected in order to
protect the public
wash-house, so that it
could be used in the
cold season.
The 1950's-1960's,
after the installation
of the municipal
waterworks, the
fountain was no-longer
used.
MONUMENT
DEDICATED TO THE
VICTIMS OF THE
INDUSTRIAL
ACCIDENTS:
It
is located in Viale IV
Novembre, it was
inaugurated in 2001.
The monument was
projected by the
Offidian artist Carlo
Marchetti, it is
presented by a tiled
travertine square, a
fountain, a bench, a
polychromic mosaic
which contains a
brazier.
FOUNTAIN OF THE
WATERING:
Situated
near the Rocca, it was
erected around the
XVII-XVIII
century.
